Hot Apple Cider Drink

I’m the type of person who doesn’t usually eat breakfast right away in the morning. I know that the word “Breakfast” literally means “Break the fast” of the past 10 hours or so of not eating because you were (hopefully) sleeping. But I’m just not ready to stomach much of anything when I wake up! I’ve always been this way. For the longest time, the only thing I've been able to handle in the morning is my coffee.

When I wake up in the morning after not eating all night, I KNOW I’m not only low on food, but I’m also dehydrated (which might be why I’m never hungry). As much as I love waking up and wrapping my hands around that steaming mug of joe and taking that cozy first sip, I’ve noticed a big difference when I can hydrate a little before starting on the coffee…..Which is why I love this Hot Apple Cider drink!

I’ve heard about the benefits of drinking Apple Cider Vinegar (you can dilute 1-2 TB into an 8 oz glass of water) but I tried that and honestly, it was still so sour! Have you ever tried drinking ACV? The good apple taste is there, and I want to like it, but the vinegar part is obviously very strong and can be hard to get past. I thought if I could somehow sweeten the mixture, then it might go down easier- so I reached for the jar of honey and started mixing, and after a little bit I came up with this yummy drink that I actually ENJOY just like I enjoy sipping my morning coffee!

Directions:

In a coffee mug, mix 1-2 TB of ACV with 1 TB of honey (you can add more later if you need it)

Add hot water. (I’m working on the habit of waking up and heating the tea kettle with water first instead of pouring my coffee right away)

The hot water will help the honey mix with the ACV and cut that bitter flavor!

I always sprinkle in some plain ground cinnamon (not cinnamon sugar) and as I stir it all together I really start to smell that yummy apple cider scent!

Taste, and add a little more honey if needed.

That’s it! Water, ACV, Honey, and cinnamon! I think this really tastes good as a hot drink in the winter, but you could also pour it over ice in the summer for a refreshing “wake up” drink! I am not a health expert nor do I claim to be one, but I think this drink tastes good AND it makes me feel energized and helps me hydrate when I wake up, so I wanted to share it with you! Will you try it? At the very least, please make it once and leave a comment with your opinion of the taste!

Cheers!
